A year ago, I walked into my routine blood work appointment and my bi-yearly dentist visit completely unaware that it would spark one of the most intense wellness journeys of my life.
My vitamin D levels were low (like most people’s), which meant my body wasn’t properly absorbing calcium (aka the mineral that keeps your bones and teeth strong). And when vitamin D is off, magnesium and other minerals are usually off too. It was a whole domino effect I didn’t even know was happening in my body.
That same week, I ended up getting several fillings because of lingering cavities. And honestly? My teeth had been giving me so much trouble that year. More cavities than usual. I knew something was off.
But here’s the thing: I’ve always believed cavities can be stopped or remineralized and even reversed when they’re still in the early stages. Our bodies are wonderfully created and healing is a large part of the system they’re built upon. I ended up buying a course written by an incredible functional doctor all about remineralizing teeth from the inside out, because I wanted to do this right and take my health into my own hands.
So in 2025, I made the decision to heal my body and teeth on a cellular level.
Fast Forward: The Dentist Appointment That Proved Everything
A few days ago, almost exactly one year later, I went back for my next checkup.
This time, I refused X-rays. Not because I’m anti-dentist. Simply because I’d been traveling all year, and my body didn’t need the extra radiation. I’m selective about what goes into my body. The hygienist began cleaning my teeth and casually said, “Wow, your teeth look really good.” That brought me joy because they’ve honestly felt stronger than ever.
Then the dentist came in.
He looked at my old X-rays from last year (the only ones he had, because I refused new ones) and said:
“I see some decay on this tooth. Let’s get that filled.”
My heart sank. I wanted to scream: But I did everything right. What do you mean decay?
From the way they were talking, it almost sounded like maybe a previous filling was faulty. Something wasn’t adding up. So I kept asking questions. And thankfully, the hygienist finally pulled up the X-rays so I could see for myself.
And there it was: a small, faded, grayish area on one tooth.
Early-stage decay. The exact kind I learned in my course could be remineralized.
So I asked her, “Can you take an X-ray of just that one tooth?”
Because if someone is going to drill into my tooth, I need to know that what they’re seeing is current, not a year-old snapshot.
And guess what? She did and didn’t charge me for it.
The new X-ray popped up on the screen… and instead of that dull gray decay? There was a bright white rim, a sign of active remineralization.
The hygienist literally froze.
“…Oh.”
She left to show the dentist.
The doctor came back and said,
“We’ll just keep watching that tooth. It looks good now.”
They had no idea that I’ve been on a full-force mineral-rebalancing protocol for the last year. No idea that I’ve been intentionally healing my mouth and gut. No idea that I’ve been experimenting, studying, applying, and journaling everything I’ve learned.
All they knew was that the “decay” they were ready to drill was now healing itself.
It was the first moment I had physical proof that what I was doing was working.
And honestly? That’s a great example of how faith works.
Sometimes you act on what you hope is happening before you ever see the results.
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1
Everything I Did to Remineralize My Teeth (Naturally + Consistently)
If you want to try any of this, remember: I’m not a doctor or dentist. I’m a girl who studied the functional side of tooth health because my body deserved answers the traditional system wasn’t giving me.
Here’s exactly what I did:
1. Corrected My Vitamin D Levels (Non-Negotiable)
Low vitamin D → poor calcium absorption → weak enamel.
I took:
- Vitamin D3
- Vitamin K2 (MK-7) so the calcium actually goes into your bones and teeth
- Magnesium (because D uses magnesium as a cofactor)
2. Added Whole-Body Minerals
This was huge.
- Zinc
- Cod liver oil (fat-soluble vitamins A & D)
- Iodine
- A trace mineral complex
Your saliva is literally supposed to be mineral-rich. That’s how your teeth remineralize. If your body doesn’t have minerals, your mouth can’t repair itself.
3. Mouth Taping at Night
This improved my breathing, my sleep, and my salivary pH.
Dry mouth = cavity city.
Nasal breathing = healing environment.
4. Supported My Gut
Your teeth can also be a reflection of your internal gut status.
I added:
- Raw milk
- Cheese
- Yogurt
- Fermented foods
This supported my microbiome and increased natural calcium intake.
5. Protected My Teeth After Every Meal
This one was surprisingly effective.
After every meal I would:
- Rinse with water to normalize saliva pH
- Brush after acidic foods or drank things like coffee or tea (acid is what causes enamel erosion)
- Made sure the gum I chewed contained xylitol and no sugars/acids
- Swapped a fluoride-filled toothpaste for nanohydroxyapatite
Small habits, big difference.
6. Consistently Ate More Mineral-Rich Foods
Bone broth
Pasture eggs
Seafood
Leafy greens
Mineral water
Raw milk (MAJOR key)
Calcium + magnesium + phosphorus = enamel rebuilding team.
The Tooth That Healed Itself
The fact that a tooth that looked “concerning” last year now showed healing on a fresh X-ray… I can’t explain how validating that was.
We grow up believing cavities are permanent. That drilling is the only fix. But the early stages of decay? The pre-cavity phase? It is healable. The body is not broken. It’s always trying to fix itself when we give it the minerals, nutrition, and environment it needs. I’m not telling you to ignore your dentist. I’m telling you to be informed, ask for updated scans, and understand what’s actually happening in your body.
If I hadn’t known what I know now, I would have let them drill a tooth that was actively healing itself.
Final Thoughts: You Are the Gatekeeper of Your Health
I walked out of that dentist office so proud of myself. Not because I “beat the dentist,” but because I finally trusted myself enough to follow through on something deeply holistic and deeply personal. I healed something I couldn’t see… long before I ever saw the proof.
My teeth feel stronger. My minerals are balanced. My body is absorbing what I give it. And now? I have the X-ray receipts.
And I’ll say this confidently:
Remineralization works.
Nourishing your body works.
And being your own advocate always pays off.
